SEPURAN

PATENTED 3-STAGE MEMBRANE-BASED SEPARATION PROCESS

Evonik has developed a patented 3-stage biogas upgrading process that makes optimum use of the SEPURAN® Green membranes separation properties.

Evonik’s 3-stage biogas upgrading process is a patented across major markets.

At the core of the process are Evonik’s innovative hollow fiber membranes, which consist of a specially developed high-performance polymer. The fibers are used to separate biogas, which consists of biomethane and bio carbon-dioxide. Most crucially, the fibers are highly resistant to H2S, VOCs, pressure and temperature and have very high selectivity. When used with the patented 3-stage separation process, a second compression step is not necessary. This helps optimize the material and energy costs at biogas upgrading plants.

Addressing key market demands in biogas upgrading

Evonik’s patent-protected 3-stage process addresses a range of current biogas upgrading trends, including the demand for systems with:

  • Energy saving low pressure operations
  • LNG-ready biomethane at very low CO2 levels down to 50 ppm
  • Low CAPEX systems running on lower selective / high capacity membranes like SEPURAN® Green R2X
  • Very low CH4 slip
